JOB SUMMARY: The Housing Support Specialist will oversee all housing services to youth in a DYS contracted independent living program in Lowell. She/he will identify, pursue, and maintain quality affordable housing opportunities for youth while promoting self-sufficiency, empowerment, and stabilization. They will provide comprehensive case management and teach tangible life skills to older DYS involved clients.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Development of a housing network of public and private housing entities and landlords
• Monitor youth progress/efforts in finding housing
• Accompany youth to open houses/apartment viewings and/or lease signings
• Collaborate with DYS staff to assist youth with their needs, overcome barriers, and assist with developing self-sufficiency goals
• Review youth income and expenses, credit histories, and CORI/criminal background checks in order to determine potential barriers to housing
• Conduct housing workshops and/or life skills groups including orientation
• Complete program intakes and discharge/transition plans
• Maintain up-to-date client records
• Participate in staff meetings and trainings as requested
• Conduct site inspections and apartment searches as needed
• Enter youth progress notes into online database
• Provide on call coverage on evenings and weekends
